Chuqiao Li (Chloe) is a visual artist who works with paper, artist’s books and printmaking as well as impermanent materials such as food. As a cross cultural artist, she realized the ambiguity of national identity and the fragility of human civilization. Her current works focus on the language, texts and visual symbols, and their relationships with culture, humanity and identities.

Chuqiao has exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo and selected group shows in the United States, China and France. She held her solo exhibition Is Barbarism With a Human Face Our Fate? (2022) and The Ambiguous Self (2021). Her artist’s book was exhibited in On Paper: Printmaking, Book Arts & Beyond at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center (2021). Her work has been collected by Dolphin Press and Print (2019).  As a teaching intern for Historical Papermaking and Book Structure at MICA, Chuqiao has designed and led the Lotus Project inspired by and responded to the Rubins Museum’s The Lotus Effect, and assisted in class teaching.

She also designed and taught several book binding and printmaking workshops in Shanghai and Beijing. Her previous workshops have covered book structures such as accordion fold, flag book and maze book, as well as printmaking techniques such as photo-transfering. In 2022, she was invited to teach a book binding session at Parsons the New School for Design.

Chuqiao is a current MFA in Visual Arts candidate at Columbia University School of the Arts. She received a BFA in Printmaking with a minor in Book Arts from Maryland Institute of Art (MICA) in 2021.
